Everyone who hosted a Spay Day USA 2008 event and submitted their results by the March 7 deadline was eligible to win a fabulous prize in the "Every Spay/Neuter Counts!" contest.
Contest Rules:
To qualify for this contest, Spay Day USA event organizers must have registered their events prior to the start date and reported their event results to The HSUS by March 7, 2008. View the contest rules » (PDF)

A Trip for Two to The HSUS' Animal Care Expo 2008
Animal Care Expo is a world-class educational conference combined with a full-scale international trade show. The goal of this annual event is to help people working in the fields of animal sheltering, care, control and rescue do the best and most efficient jobs possible. Expo attracts the | largest gathering of animal care and control professionals and volunteers in the world. In recent years, conference attendance has reached more than 1,500, attracting professionals from all 50 states and more than 30 countries.

Animal Care Expo 2008 takes place from May 14 to 18 at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, Fla.
2008 Winner: Animals Requesting Friends (ARF) in Fairfield, Ill. ARF spayed or neutered 64 cats and dogs, reached more than 5,000 people with the spay/neuter message, raised $600 for spay/neuter and passed a resolution in Fairfield recognizing the last Tuesday in February as "Spay Day USA."

2008 Winner: Rags to Riches Cat Rescue in Warrenton, North Carolina. Rags to Riches, new rescue, spayed or neutered 18 cats and 1 dog, reached 300 people with the spay/neuter message and raised $300 for spay/neuter.
The Carol Smallwood Spay Day USA Prize
A $500 spay/neuter grant, generously donated by Carol Smallwood, was awarded to nine event organizers chosen at random from around the country.
1. Rescue K9-11, Camp Hill, Ala. Spayed or neutered 10 dogs and reached 5,000 people with the spay/neuter message.
2. Humane Society of Del Norte, Crescent City, Calif. Spayed or neutered 36 cats, reached 80 people with the spay/neuter message and raised $500 for spay/neuter.
3. Catnip and Carrots Animal Bunch, Huntington Beach, Calif. Spayed or neutered two cats, reached 15 people with the spay/neuter message and raised $20 for spay/neuter.
4. Acadiana Humane Society, Sunset, La. Spayed or neutered 17 cats and dogs, reached 40 people with the spay/neuter message and raised $80 for spay/neuter.
5. Creekside Veterinary Hospital, Bozeman, Mont. Three vets with help from 25 volunteers spayed or neutered 44 animals in one day, reached 70 people with the spay/neuter message and raised $50 for spay/neuter.
6. Pet Pawz Clinic, Emery, SD. Spayed or neutered eight cats and dogs.
7. Holly Help Spay-Neuter Fund, Bristol, Va. Spayed or neutered 175 animals, reached more than 80,000 people with the spay/neuter message, raised $1347.25 for spay/neuter and passed a Spay Day USA resolution in Bristol.
8. Voices for Animals, Charlottesville, Va. Spayed or neutered 79 cats and reached 300 people with the spay/neuter message.
9. Whatcom County Spay Day Team, Bellingham, Wash. Spayed or neutered 249 animals and reached perhaps the whole town of Bellingham with the spay/neuter message.
The JoAnn and Jay Gross Spay Day USA Prize
A $500 spay/neuter grant was awarded to two Michigan-based event organizers, donated by Carol Smallwood in honor of JoAnn and Jay Gross.
1. WAG Animal Rescue, Wyandotte, Mich. Spayed or neutered 13 cats and dogs, reached 2,000 people with the spay/neuter message, raised $50 for spay/neuter and passed a Spay Day USA resolution in Wyandotte.
2. Alley Cat Angels, Battle Creek, Mich. Spayed or neutered 44 cats and raised $300 for spay/neuter.
Tuition to Humane Society University Increase your effectiveness for animals and learn something new from your colleagues in the field at Humane Society University. Online courses include "Animals in Disaster: Awareness and Preparedness," "Evaluating Your Shelter: Are You Ready to Implement a Behavior Program?," "Training Volunteers and Training Staff to Work with Volunteers," and "Strategic Planning for Success." Up to $150 in tuition, redeemable through April 2009.
2008 Winner: The Kelvar Edraith Fellowship, Newport, Minn. Spayed or neutered 15 animals, reached 135 people with the spay/neuter message and raised $57 for spay/neuter.
